Freelancers: 5 good resolutions for 2018
The start of the year gets everybody making their New Year’s Resolutions. Maybe you already do that, trying to go for really good ones. If you are stuck for ideas, here are five suggestions for good resolutions that might tick your box.
1. Get all your admin chores onto a computer
All the time you spend on admin chores just loses you money, therefore it is vital for your business to cut this non-earning time right down. The first stage is to get all your invoicing and chasing up payments onto a computer. You could also try using a computer programme for your project management or your prospective client list. Feel you’re a beginner? No problem, have a go at the Hive5 Business Tool, which we designed especially for freelancers.
2. Keep working on your network
Whether you’re looking for new clients, for new partners, or just for new opportunities to talk about your projects and share them, why not go to a networking event? Plan to do this at least once a month and don’t forget to take plenty of business cards with you. If you don’t know where to start, Hive5 regularly organises events for its members. Some of these are also open to anybody interested in networking.
3. Don’t leave it to the last minute to look for new clients
Let’s assume you have a handful of clients, just about enough for your business to tick over in profit and to fill your diary with apppointments. But don’t stop there when everything is going right for you! Nobody knows what might happen in the future. As long as you carry on looking for new clients, you will be less vulnerable should one of your clients suddenly decide to leave you without warning. Set aside a couple of hours every week to work on your list of prospective clients.
4. Increase your visibility on social networks
Keep your LinkedIn profile up to date. Create a page for your business on LinkedIn and Facebook, and why not add a profile on Twitter or Instagram? Share any interesting content relevant to your business with your target followers. Re-share these “statuses” on your private wall and don’t hesitate to ask a few friends to do the same. By doing that you will increase your visibility!
5. Go and work in a coworking centre
By spending just one or two days a week in a coworking centre, you will be able to do any of the following (not an exhaustive list):
- get a change of scene
- widen your network
- talk to people who might be able to help on an issue you need to handle
- find new clients.
These are just a few good resolutions that should give a boost to your business at the beginning of this year. They could launch you on an exceptional year in 2018. And that’s exactly what we wish for you.
